UFC Nashville: Results and Bonuses
Zane Simon and Eddie Mercado are off this weekend but we've got the results and bonuses.
UFC Nashville was awful on paper but managed to deliver a few highs, a lot of lows, and some WTF moments, as well. Starting with our top WTF moment is the questionable stoppage in the main event. Lewis got his hand raised after dropping the tall dude, but it was clear Tallison was recovered and trying to get back to the action. Cormier was jubilant during the post-fight interview of Lewis, immediately leading with “You just got off the phone with the president right before you did your ring walk”, so there’s that.
WTF moment number two came in the co-main event. Stephen Thompson, after splitting his shin wide open, still used that bloody gash as a weapon in the fight, clearly winning two rounds. He got mugged in the decision, which went to Bonfim. It was a robbery in broad moonlight.
WTF moment number 3 was seeing the incorrectly spelled hashtag of #UFCNashVILE trend to the extent that legacy media was using it all night. I won’t name names, but there are receipts to be had.
The highs were Morgan Charriere getting a nice finish over Nate Landwehr, Vitor Petrino choking the oxygen out of Austen Lane, Jake Matthews finishing Chidi Njokuani, Valter Walker trying to rip Kennedy Nzechukwu’s leg off, and Mike Davis starching Mitch Ramirez inside a round. We cannot overlook Fatima Kline’s “left leg cemetery” knockout of Melissa Martinez either.
The lows were definitely at the bottom of the barrel. Chris Curtis once again showed how he is absolutely undeserving of his nickname, fighting the ugliest, most lackluster fight imaginable, and still managing to get fouled again. And he could only eke out a split against one Max Griffin. Watching Calvin Kattar get completely outclassed by Steve Garcia en route to a 30-27 x3 loss was no fun at all. That makes five-straight losses. Somehow, he was still ranked off four-straight losses coming into this bout. Now, let’s check out the rest of the results and bonuses while we’re here.
