UFC Baku: Results and Bonuses
Zane Simon and Eddie Mercado are off this weekend but we've got the results and bonuses.
UFC Baku wasn’t the strongest card on paper, and in practice, it reflected that. For all those that lodge the “these cards always deliver” argument, you were wrong. Not a single finish was achieved on the undercard, and the main card saw just two. The comments on social media ranged from how miserable the fights were to comparisons to the UFC of old, when fights were booked better and there was actually recognizable talent to casual fans.
Khalil Rountree, Jr. dropped Jamahal Hill multiple times, but the time between those knockdowns seemed like eons, with long spells of inactivity that resulted in lots of booing. Hill looked awful—slow and lumbering with only resilience keeping him in the fight. Rountree, despite Jamahal’s inability to dodge haymakers, looked lackluster. If he gets a title shot off that performance, Ankalaev will have an easy night.
I realize Sadykov vs. Motta was a banger, but in my very humble opinion, it wasn’t enough to save this card from the scrap heap that it belongs on. I mean, these two actually won all four bonuses, if that tells you anything. Now, let’s check out the rest of the results and bonuses while we’re here.
